What kind of downloads will be needed to play?
There are two ways to connect to the server:
1) We developed our own launcher, which will automatically download all necessary files for you. Once this is done, you can click the "Start Neverwinter Nights" button to directly launch the game, which will automatically connect to the server. Playing this way requires minimal effort on your part—literally "plug and play."
2) We will make all the required haks and tlks available for download. Keep in mind that we also have many optional files, such as new music used for different areas. We recommend this method only if you are comfortable managing files manually.
There is a max level?
At the moment, characters can't go beyond level 15. Reason being we are still calibrating many things and finishing some new systems that will be the core of the server from level 15 onwards. It may be a bit of time before is possible to go beyond that level, once done that though we plan to not put any, but it will be very difficult even to reach epic levels.
Can I take any prestige class freely?
We have implemented a soft limitation on this to avoid typical arena builds or lore-unfriendly builds around the server. Yes, you can take any of the prestige classes, but please keep these limitations in mind:
- Characters must reach level 10 before being eligible to take a prestige class (and still need to meet the prestige class requirements).
- Some prestige classes will be faction-locked, meaning a character will need to be in that faction and hold a high standing with them to access the class.
Additionally, some special classes we will introduce in the future (such as Archmage or Hierophant) will be locked to a lore-based system. This means you will either have to find specific books or coded scrolls in the world that will allow your character to unlock these classes. (This feature is planned for the future; currently, there are no special prestige classes yet.)
I used your launcher but i am still failing to connect, what's happening? why are you not using NWSync?
So, i will adress the beholder in the room: nwsync doesn't work well. Not only our files are too big for the nwsync to handle (which one could even try to make smaller sizes, okay, still an endless work to be done) but it seems for some reasons doesn't accept the extensions of some of our files. This means that probably more than 50% of the cool stuff we have on server, we would had needed to discard them or forget about it.
Instead, we decided to simply say "nope" to nwsync and make our own launcher. We tested it extensively and it does work (more than 80% of players uses it without issues and the remaining 20% had initial issues that got solved or they just prefer to move files manually) but it is known that may have problems based on your connection on how you installed the game (for example a player had multiple installed folders of nwn and our launcher had no idea on where to install the correct files).
If the game is telling you you are missing files, i would advice to go here and open the "neverwinter nights" folder in your Documents. In there should be a Hak and Tlk folder. Be sure that nwno_dialog is in the Tlk folder and that everything else is in the Hak folder. If something is missing, download the file from that list and unzip it in the correct folder
If you are having other issues, please, reach out to me or Gades explaining your problem
Is my crafting skill separate from my leveling up?
No, your crafting skills works exactly like any other skill, you invest points in them and you raise them as normal. There are also few items in games that will boost it further. To craft an item you will not even need to make a roll, so long you can reach the value required for the recipe, you will be able to craft it.
How many green flames i can get and how?
To get the flames you need to kill monster of your same level.if you kill mons too easy (or too hard) they do not appear and the probability is always the same. The only factor that decrease the probability is how much flames unused you have in you inventory. If you have more than 2 times required by your next bless level the probability decreases a bit. (just a bit)
I am forever stuck with my character if i make a mistake in my build?can i remake it?
We are not fond of the remaking fully a character. We believe it breaks immersion if one is, say, a sorceror and then one day goes "Meh, i really liked warlock more" and destroyts it to remake it so next days one sees them eldritch blast everything. Still, we are human. Mistakes happens and, especially new players, may not have readed this forum and know about all the new toys we implemented.
So, we left a period grace let's say. One can still delete and remake the character they made the background for (with the same exact name) by using the book in the login area. It has a special function to delete your character, but there are 2 limits we decided to impose:
1) you have up to level 3 to decide. If by level 3 you didn't decide to remake it, then for us is a sign that you liked it and you will continue on its path. For some special circumstances we may allow to redo it, but is absolutely not the norm
2)You cannot usually pass your equipment to it. Reason being the the new character will still have to redo the intro (we have no way to make it get past that for several reasons) so you will have to redo the whole story arc. You can however asks your friends in game to 'hold your items for a moment' if someone is willing to do it
There is a request for a background to play?
No, we decided that putting a background block would limit creativity and given that Waterdeep has thousands of inhabitants and characters have several reasons to interacts with npcs (which are normal everyday races) is fine by us to have people come up with their own concept so long is well explained. Although, given that players are skipping entirely sending a background because of this there will be 2 limitations imposed
Those without a background sended with this Ticket System will have the RP xp gain Disabled and will not be able to use the DM System after completing the first chapter without an approved background
If you have a very long and creative background, keep it on forum or send it to us privately if you want to keep it out from pry eyes, just know that the staff may not always be available to make events based on your background, that is something we leave mostly to Developer DMs, so be sure to write at least the core topic of your concept in the ticket. (Please, read about the DM system to understand what i am talking about in the New features mechanics)
I have seen on the forum that you have a peculiar way to handl experience gain. How those race favored classes work with it?
They aren't take in consideration with our custom experience gain system. Meaning that you should only look at how we handl the ECL with multiclass and races as 'modifiers' for your experience gain and nothing more
