Initial Alignment: Neutral Good

Height: 5’10”

Weight/Build: Lean, wiry frame built for speed and agility

Age: 22

Eyes: Deep brown, sharp and always scanning his surroundings

Hair: Dark brown, slightly unkempt, often tied back to keep out of his face

Deity: Tymora – the Lady of Luck, a fitting patron for one who has walked the fine line between fortune and misfortune

Base Class & Proposed Development: Waterdeep Artisen

Notable/Distinguishing Features: A faded scar across his left hand, a reminder of past mistakes
Quick, precise movements, always seeming ready to act
A confident, easygoing smile that hides deeper worries

Appearance: Marcolius carries himself with the casual grace of a man used to moving unseen and unheard. His lean frame allows him to slip through crowds with ease, and his fingers, once trained for picking pockets, now carefully and deftly handle materials while crafting. Though he dresses simply, there’s a careful deliberation to his choice of attire—practical, flexible, yet never so fine as to stand out too much. His deep brown eyes carry the weight of someone who has seen both hardship and fleeting triumphs, yet his expression remains one of quiet determination.

Personality Profile: Marcolius is a man torn between his past and the future he’s trying to build. Quick-witted and resourceful, he has the sharp instincts of a street survivor but the heart of someone who genuinely wants to do good. He has a deep disdain for those who exploit the weak, having once been at the mercy of such people himself. While he values his independence, he’s fiercely loyal to those he considers friends, willing to take risks others wouldn’t for the sake of those he trusts.

Background: Marcolius Dian was born and raised in the docks of Waterdeep, where life was as rough as the sea that shaped it. The streets were his teacher, and hunger his constant companion. He learned early that survival meant being quicker, smarter, and sometimes meaner than the next person. It wasn’t long before his nimble fingers caught the attention of a local gang leader, who saw promise in the boy’s natural talent for slipping into places unseen and relieving others of their burdens.

For a time, Marcolius was content to play the part of a street thief—after all, what other future did a dock rat have? But the more he saw of the world behind the gold coins he snatched, the more he hated it. He saw children like him forced into servitude, desperate workers cheated out of their wages, and cruel men growing fat off the misery of others. It gnawed at him, but he didn’t know how to escape the life he’d been given.

A turning point came when he was caught mid-theft—not by the city watch, but by an old artisen who was more amused than angry. Instead of turning him in, the man offered him a deal: a chance to learn something better than thievery. With nothing to lose, Marcolius took the offer, and under his mentor’s guidance, he honed his reflexes, learned the grace of the craft, and—most importantly—began to see a path beyond petty crime.

Though the gang that once claimed him wasn’t happy about his departure, he managed to slip away without too much bloodshed—mostly due to luck, and a well-timed gamble on an escape plan that shouldn’t have worked. With the docks behind him, he spent the next few years traveling Waterdeep, taking up honest work where he could, hiring out as a small time artisen, and further refining his crafting style. He still relied on his quick fingers and keen mind, but now, instead of taking from the world, he sought to carve out a better place for himself in it.

Now, with his past firmly behind him—or so he hopes—Marcolius has set his sights on something more. Opportunity has called him beyond beyond his masters tutelage, and he finds himself searching for the next step in honing his craft. Whatever awaits him in the City, he is ready to face it, so long as his wits remain sharp and his luck holds strong.

Goals: To prove to himself that he can rise above his past and become something greater
To use his skills for good, rather than selfish gain
To carve out a reputation not as a thief, but as a skilled artisen

Enemies: The old gang he walked away from—some of them may still bear grudges
Corrupt merchants and slavers who profit from the suffering of others
Himself, in a way—his past choices still haunt him

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: A figure from his past—an old friend, a rival, or a mentor—resurfaces, pulling him back into the shadows he tried to escape
He is forced to make a difficult moral choice between his old instincts and the ideals he now holds
An opportunity arises to take down a crime syndicate or corrupt noble preying on the lower class, testing his resolve and skills
A long-lost family connection is revealed, tying him to something far greater than he ever imagined
