Crafting

Post by Ailander »

Given we have rearranged the whole economy system (look at the index for the New Economy ) , we had the need for a completely different crafting system as well. There are several crafting skills and, with the exception of "extraction", all of them have and requires their own crafting table. That's the whole list with the only one missing being Alchemy which has its own post here is a brief explanation of each crafting category

Cooking: Allow you to prepare dishes and drinks that gives temporary boosts and, in some high tier food, magical effects.

Extraction: Is a comprehensive skill that allow you to gather materials, being it wood, stone, pelts or iron. We decided to make a single skill for this because it would had been too much putting a single skill for each category of gathering causing it even more stress on the skill poitns of the characters

Metallurgy: Anything that has to do with the forge and working with metals included, and not limited, to weapons, armors, golem crafting, jewelry etc.

Scribe: The "write scrolls" feat has been altered to give a bonus on this new skill that gives a complete new way of doing them. Scrolls are crafted throught this skill with pens and inks. Also lore books of any kind are made throught this one..

Tailor: For all that wants to play fashionistas is the skill to go. It allow to make leather armors and clothes, plus some tailored placeables for the houses (rags, carpets etc).

Tanning: Is the only way to make leathers from the pelts found in the wild usable for the Tailor skill.

Wood Carving: Used to make arrows, bolts and ranged weaponry. Is also the main skill for making placeables to use for decorating homes such as tables, chairs etc.

How does it works. To begin with, every profession has some basic items available to craft (called tier 0) for each category of item you want to make. Special items or special tiers are unlocked throught recipes.

Craftbooks and recipes
Thanks to the new Lore system (check the index ) we were able to create book recipes that can be shared among players and characters. You can sell single recipes to other players or, if you are a veteran and retiring the character, selling your recipes book to other players. There is one for each category with the exception of Extraction. The recipes, for now, can only be found in chests adventuring. We plan at some point of placing quests that will reward with recipes but is not the case for now

Production video
The items are made at the respective crafting table and will make an automatic check of your skill value. If you pass the required value for the item, it will be created. No roll required. As shown in the short video, if you create an item succesfully you will be automatically redirected to the second part of the crafting, which involve a corner of the table that shows you the models of the item you are going to create and editable as you see fit. This part, for now, is only for weapons and shields, armors are proving much more difficult to do (and for them, we implemented the old standards manequins)

Take note that there are, complexively, over 500 hundred models for items in the game, but we decided that certain skins (especially the cool and nice ones) will be available only to specific kind of weapons (like longsword models being only for longswords for example) and of specific tier (general rule is, the higher the tier, the cooler the item will look)

Once the item is created will be located automatically in your inventory. Most items have some base properties (like silver weapons having extra positive damage against undead) but will also possess "sockets" that will be used for enchanting (check Enchanting in the index). The number of sockets depends from the material used and will always be displayed in the crafting chat so you know before producing.
