To begin with, how people gain experience from monsters has changed drastically on our server. Putting aside the ECL malus of the races (see Races forum) starting from level 3 onwards the character will gain 2 kind of experience points: the pending xp and the normal xp in a ratio (usually) of 2 to 1. This means that when you kill a monster, you get part of the whole xp immediately and the bigger part goes in what is called "Pending" (the white number between brackets) and goes in a separate pool of experience points, that can be seen throught the pcbook, that the character still possess but is not being assigned yet. The only way for characters to earn this pending xp is by resting in a safe bed (their home, a room in an inn, designated safe shelters etc).Example Video Beware thought that on death this pending xp will be lost in case of respawn (see death penalties).
This pool has a hard limit of 1000. Beyond that is impossible to gain more experience for the pending pool (but you will still earn the normal experience from killing monsters). We decided to use this method to make people take breaks from one adventures to another and avoid being too careless when exploring
Another xp pool a character will have is the "Offline". This pool of xp is gained by being offline in specific areas (some are still under design, but in general in safe places,like an inn). This one is not lost on death but is also not gained immediately (not even by resting in a safe place). Instead, it will be injected in the xp gain from killing monsters little by little, as a sort of booster in xp. Consider it a little bonus for those that are unable to play a lot of time during the day and as such will get a bit of aid to get on same level of their friends.
