Edgar Windward

Name: Edgar Windward
Race: Human
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Height: 6ft3
Weight/Build: Lean / Athletic
Age: 34
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond
Deity: Tempus
Base Class & Proposed Development: Fighter / Barbarian / Weapon Master

Notable/Distinguishing Features: Everything about Edgar seems weathered by battle and harsh situations. His armor, his greataxe, his skin covered in scars, everything.

Appearance: Edgar is a tall and athletic looking man with blond hair and blue eyes, features reminding anyone of the north of Toril. He keeps his hair in a rather messy, short haircut and overall he gives the impression of being a traveller, a wandering warrior, an adventurer or all of them. His body is a clear tell of a man that has seen a lot of battle, scars on most of it and callous hands.

Personality Profile: Edgar may give the impression of being yet another adventurer, with a rather detached and sarcastic look on life and death, as people involved with violence at times do. In reality, that is but a shield to a more emotional personality, both negative and positive emotions, freezing cold and smoldering hot. Sorrow and Anger. He cares not about the struggles between good and evil, to him they are just an eternal battle that will see no winner, ever. Overall, he treats people as they treat him, if they are reliable he will be reliable back... if they are unpleasant... he will be unpleasant back. He tries to follow the teachings of Tempus as best as he can, although he is far from perfect at that.

Background:
Edgar was born in Bryn Shander, in the far away frozen lands of Icewind Dale. A nobody, son of nobodies, with a nobody life ahead of him. He was destined to be a carpenter like his father before him, but he decided to take his fate in his own hands, leaving his home to follow a random group of adventurers when he was very young.

He was an enthusiastic boy that wanted to become an adventurer, like many, after hearing the many songs and tales from any bard passing by a tavern. Unfortunately for him, his view on that would have changed drastically.

There is much unsaid, much that the bards would avoid to say, when they sing about epic adventurers. The truth is that many adventurers die, often in terrible and unspeakable ways... in the most unremarkable circumstances. Dreams and ambitions shattered just because you didn't pronounce a word on a scroll correctly, or fast enough, maybe your sword got stuck in the scabbard... or the potion that they sold you was fake.

Bards wouldn't tell you what sort of horrible rituals and brutalities some monsters would do to you, if they capture you alive, or what they would do to your body even after you die.

Edgar's life would be filled with years on years of loss, fear, and anger. Losing a friend and a love interest one after the other, to the point of becoming numb to death and suffering. Years spent around the world, travelling with new faces, to complete yet another quest... and trying his best not to get attached because anyone could die in an instant... and Gods know if they would ever be able to afford a resurrection or if that would even work. Souls and Gods may be fickle, for a variety of reasons, after all.

Edgar always keeps the only memento he has, of the one person that set him on his path of self discovery and self improvement. A necklace, formerly owned by a Tempurian Battle Priest named Ronan Tharios, it became a heirloom for Edgar, after Ronan died in one of the many quests that ended in tragedy.

Ronan was the man that Edgar respected the most, the man initiated him to the ways of battle when he was young, and since... Edgar tries what he can to honour his memory. Edgar does what he can not to do anything that would upset Tempus for that reason.

Edgar's life has been so, a chaotic puzzle of travels and indefinite number of faces he worked with... and he never saw again. A soul full of scars, for losing people he loved, until he learnt how not to get attached. And that is what has been happening to this day, when his new chapter in Cormyr was about to begin.

Goals: Mastering of combat and the use of his weapon of choice, improving the self is a strong motivator for him, although he may say that money is... that's a lie. For everything else, he is without clear destination and open to developments.

Enemies: None yet, but a general and strong dislike for all monstrous races. Goblins, Gnolls, etc.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Anything involving the Church of Tempus would catch his attention. Edgar is a character that is open to much development, I set his alignment as Chaotic Neutral because I potentially see him shifting in one direction or the other, depending on future events. For now, he simply behaves as a money hungry mercenary, although there is more to him.
